FAQ
I’m not sure if my child needs speech therapy, is this course for me?
We go through a detailed list of the skills expected for each age and development level, and help you identify where your child is at. You will leave with a much better idea if you need to seek help and the best place to look for it.
I’m waiting for speech therapy, do I need to do anything now?
Waiting times for therapy can be long, especially in rural or remote areas, or where there is high demand for services. Active waiting – where you use strategies in everyday life to help your child – has been shown to improve therapy outcomes in the long term.
I’m a bit worried about my child’s communication, but everyone tells me they will catch up. Do I need this course?
You know your child best and have a right to advocate for them when you are concerned. Some children ‘catch up’ but we cannot tell which children will and which won’t. We do know that persistent and untreated speech and language problems can have long-term consequences. Early intervention is a positive and proactive step to take for your child. If you are concerned, keep seeking help, and advice and build your talk-and-play toolbox.
My child has a diagnosed speech and language delay or a diagnosed disability. Will this help?
The course is designed for parents of ALL children 0-5. The course can be used as a companion for the therapy that you are receiving. We go through ways you can adapt and adjust every day activities for maximum benefit to your child.
I am so busy with the kids, I don’t have time to sit and do a full course. How will I find the time?
The course can be completed at your own pace and in your preferred order. The lessons are of varying lengths and audio is available, so you can listen while you are on the move. Video sections can be accessed on any device so you can watch when you have the time.
How will I fit in all the extra work I need to do to help my child?
I give you many examples of everyday activities and play that your child is already doing, and how to make the most of the opportunities to target speech and language skills. My philosophy is to make the most of the time you have, not add to an already full day. Comfortable for you and fun for your child leads to growth and change.
