Hi, I'm Kylie

I’m a paediatric speech pathologist, a mum of three, and the person behind Small Moments Speech & Play. I live on a working farm in rural NSW with my husband Tom, our youngest daughter (the eldest two have flown the nest), and more animals than I can keep track of.

I’ve spent over 25 years working with children and families — first in my private practice in Gunnedah, and now through the play resources, programs, and products I create here.

Why I Started This

For most of my career, I sat on floors with kids. I played with them, watched how they figured things out, noticed what lit them up and what shut them down. And I kept having the same conversation with parents: “I want to help my child, but I don’t know what to do.”

They weren’t doing anything wrong. They just hadn’t been shown how much power they already had — how much could happen in ten minutes of playing together with a bit of intention behind it.

Small Moments started because I wanted to put something in parents’ hands that would actually help. Not more advice. Not more guilt. Real tools — games, activities, resources — designed by someone who has watched thousands of children play and knows what works.

Why Play Matters More Than We Think

Play is how children learn to communicate, solve problems, regulate their emotions, and connect with the people around them. It builds everything that matters — and it’s quietly disappearing from childhood.

But here’s the part that doesn’t get said enough: play isn’t just good for children. It can be good for you, too. Following your child’s lead, seeing how they think, catching a glimpse of who they really are — even for two minutes — can be one of the most grounding, healing things you do in a day. It won’t look like much. It definitely won’t look like Instagram. But it matters more than most of us realise.

That belief is behind everything I make — from our monthly Unplugged Play game night boxes, to our play packs, to our in-depth therapy programs. And it’s behind the original games, books, and tools I’m developing now. One philosophy. Different ways in.

What I Do Now

These days, my focus is on creating. I design play resources. I curate the products I trust. I’m developing original games and tools that bring together everything I’ve learned about how children grow through play.

I’m building something that lets me reach more families — not one at a time in a room, but through the things I make and the ideas I share. Everything in this store exists because I’ve seen, thousands of times over, what the right kind of play can do for a child and a family.

You’re here because your family matters to you. Let’s start there.
